End of Day 2
Day One was spent digging the footers and pouring concrete. Day Two was putting the 6x6 posts up and bracing them for wind. |
|
|
|
End of Day 3
We shored the building up even more against the winds that can roar down the Shenendoah Valley Mountains. Alas, two days later, a very stiff wind blew through and a couple of the poles went over. These winds sound a lot like a freight train coming down the ridge! |

Start of Day 5
Day Four a crew of 5 or 6 men came in to set the roof trusses and put the metal on the roof. This picture was taken at the beginning of Day Five to show the progress of the work crew. |

End of Day 5
This is the finished framed "pole barn". The inspector will be out on Wed., November 12 to inspect the framing job and then we will put the metal sides up. You can see the large opening in the front will be an 8 ft.+ sliding barn door and next to it is the "personnel" door. The finished barn is 24'x32' and will have electricity! |

Oh...btw...here's the hole for our septic!
Not a good pic for lighting, just amazed that the guy has finally showed up to do the job. He's been "hired" since May...this pic was taken November 9! |

Inside view of Barn
Allen and I moved all these rocks from what used to be the ROCK GARDEN to fill the cavernous space inside the barn. Once we are finished with the barn a layer of gravel will be brought in to complete the flooring. We had 40 inches of space to fill and rather than fill it totally with dirt or gravel, we opted for the free rock on our property. |

Orchard View
Allen surveying all our hard work. We planted 5 of our fruit trees in this quadrant of the property and mulched them with the free pine needles from the pine thicket just off our property. |

Tons of Rock
With tons of rock from our property in place to raise the barn floor, now for the layer of gravel to finish the floor. |
|
|
|
The wooden floor
With the ground being unlevel...the front of the barn was on ground level while the back of the barn had a 40 inch drop. We had to fill the void with tons of rock and gravel and finally the last 8 feet with a wooden floor leaving storage underneath the floor that we can access from the back of the barn. |
|

|
Finished barn interior
With the rock subflooring (tons and tons of rock an sweat) and the gravel top layer, the wooden floor been built, the underpinning on and the workbenches built in opposite corners of the barn the barn is now ready for some use. |
